July 19th, 2004--- Jeff Smith leads the 3rd Congressional District field in cash on hand with almost $273,000 to communicate with voters during the last two weeks before the primary. Smith raised over $151,000 in the second quarter of 2004 and has $272,963 cash on hand in his bid to succeed Dick Gephardt as Congressman from the 3rd District of Missouri. Smith’s closest competitor, Russ Carnahan, trailed him by more than $35,000.

May 28th, 2004--- 3rd District Congressional candidate Jeff Smith announced his opposition to the state constitutional amendment to ban same sex marriage that will be on the August 3rd ballot. Smith, running to succeed Dick Gephardt, believes that all attempts to codify discrimination in the law, particularly the state constitution, are wrong and must be vigorously opposed.
